Volvo entered the tractor industry when they joined forces with Bolinder-Munkell, a Swedish tractor manufacturer, in 1943. Volvo acquired Bolinder-Munkell in 1950, but continued selling tractors under both brand names. In 1957 the brand name changed to Bolinder-Munkell-Volvo, before another name change in 1973 saw the company become Volvo BM. The business changed ownership several times between 1979 and 2004, where a number of further name changes took place. The tractor business is now owned by AGCO under the brand name Valtra.
