Turners began life manufacturing motorcycles and cars, before turning their attention to components for the motor and aircraft industries. By the 1940’s demand for agricultural equipment was high, so in 1949 Turners released a tractor called the ‘Yeoman of England’. It was ahead of its time with a V4 diesel engine, while an electric starter and independent foot brakes came as standard. However problems beset the tractor from the start, and even though the engine was redesigned in 1951, poor sales and increasing competition saw the tractor discontinued in 1957.
