Poclain, a French company founded in 1927, has been a world leader in the hydraulic excavator market. After producing the revolutionary TY45 in 1961, an excavator with 360 degree rotation on a three-wheeled tricycle undercarriage, the company starting diversifying into other areas such as mobile cranes in 1965, then hydraulic parts. The recession of the 1970’s meant it sold a 40% stake to Case, but by 1987 Case had 98.7% control, leaving the Poclain family with the just the hydraulics division.
