Komatsu is the world’s second biggest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment behind Caterpillar. In 1931 Komatsu built its first tractor, and after World War II added bulldozers and forklifts to its range. Komatsu started building diesel engines in 1949, and by 1957 all of their models used their own diesel engines. In 1988 Komatsu partnered with Dresser to manufacture mining tractors and other related products, before taking full control in 1992, changing the brand name to ‘Haulpak’ to avoid market confusion.
