Subaru

Founded in the 1950’s, Subaru has had a succession of partners throughout its history. Nissan purchased 20% in 1968, but when it formed an alliance with Renault it was sold off to General Motors in 1999. GM tried to form a partnership between Subaru and another of its subsidiaries Saab, but only one model was ever made. Toyota now own that 20% share and are working with Subaru on manufacturing future models. Subaru are best known for their rallying exploits, having won 47 World Rally Championship races, as well as three manufacturer and three driver championships. However they withdrew in December 2008 claiming to have achieved their sporting and marketing objectives.
