Part of the German triumvirate of the world’s biggest selling luxury vehicle manufacturers, which also includes BMW and Audi, Mercedes-Benz produces luxury cars, buses and trucks. A division of German manufacturer Daimler AG, Karl Benz is credited with producing the world’s first petrol powered car in 1886. The company employs one inspector for every 11 employees, and before a car gets final approval, will have undergone thousands of separate inspections. Mercedes-Benz has become a leader in safety and innovation, and sells its patents to many of the world’s leading car manufacturers. It has been involved in Formula 1 on and off since 1954, helping teams win multiple driver and constructor championships, and currently owns a 70% share of the Mercedes GP team.
