Ford

Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company in 1903, and it has grown to become the fifth biggest manufacturer in the world. Ford was the first manufacturer to use an assembly line, with the idea coming from the way pigs were slaughtered in abattoirs. The most famous early production was the Model T Ford, which accounted for 55% of all cars on American roads in 1916. Ford also owns the Lincoln Motor Company, its luxury car division producing the famous Town Car. Ford Australia has been based in Geelong since 1925, and since the XA model in 1972, has produced the fully Australian designed Falcon. However, due to rising production costs and poor sales, Ford announced it would stop producing cars after 88 years in Australia.
