Asia Motors

Asia Motors started life building military vehicles before partnering with Fiat in 1965 to assemble Fiat 124 models due to favourable tax exemption laws for imported car parts passed by the Korean government. It’s focus was on SUV and heavy duty vehicles such as Jeeps and heavy duty trucks, but when the government initiated its 1973 strategy to produce low-cost cars for export, Asia Motors was not equipped to handle the change. In 1976 Kia purchased Asia Motors before Hyundai took over in 1999 and discontinued the Asia Motors brand.
